Thursday. 18th [January 1912]. Today’s post brought me a charming letter from the Queen Margherita—most kind & affectionate & confirming her invitation to pay her a visit to Rome– Why is she so kind to me? At 3.30 we drove off to Karnak to have tea with the Legrains. Three people in their house had had fever yesterday. That heavy cloudy weather so uncommon in Egypt seems to have a bad effect on many. | |
