14 April 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 14th [April 1912]. To morning service all of us Sir F. Milner, Derrick, Violet V. & Nela. Afterwards I went to see Angela—a curious talk with her on the disadvantages of Italian society here—& the ingratitude of people to whom she has been kind & to whom she has given money. One lady even asked for a row of pearls & got it! Home to lunch & then and at three oclock started with Sir Fred Milner & Nela in the closed gondola to row to the Lido landed at Quattro Fontane & walked to Mr Montalba’s hut where we found Hilda with her brother & they gave us five o’clock tea. Derrick & Violet joined us having been to Giomo’s garden to buy flowers. We returned home by 6. It had been bright but the wind very cold–
