5 May 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 5th [May 1912]. All my party went in different directions for lunch so I proposed myself to go to lunch with Angela Reinelt at Hotel Victoria—she welcomed me kindly. I sent the gondola to Monsigr Stanley & walked after church to the Hotel Calcina to see Mme Emetaz who has been very ill. In crossing the iron bridge I met Mr Dease & he walked with as far as the Piazza – After lunch I walked home; the others came in later. Mrs Humphery Ward & her daughter came to tea at 4.30. She has grown stouter & is aged but seemed softened & improved. Lord Ridley arrived in the afternoon to stay with me. He is not strong & cannot bear the bustle of English life & wrote & offered himself & I gladly receive him.
