7 June 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Friday. 7th [June 1912]. Nora Hallé came again & helped me to set up the wires for modelling a small figure of St George—but the scirocco was so tremendous the weight in the atmosphere so bad that I was nearly overcome & had to give up the work. It rained later & one could breathe better. Duchess Canevaro & Princess Clary came to tea & also Mr & Mrs Thompson who had brought me a letter from our Bishop. What was my surprise when I found that Mrs T. was the widow of the late chaplain at Rome Oxenham & had married the churchwarden who is an artist. There was no going out for me as it rained all the evening. Mr Theodore Byard & his friend Mr Rolt came to dinner & afterwards Nela went with them to Dss Canevaro– I went to bed.
