9 June 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Sunday. 9th [June 1912]. We went to morning service– At 3 o’cl I received the Society—Amici dei Monumenti headed by Sr Molmenti the writer. Css Valmarana was of the party & Css Morosini. There were about 30 altogether & they came en masse having collected in the Campo San Polo hard by. There were representatives of the 4 newspapers Adriatics, Gazetta, Gazzettiero & Adriatico—the rest were artists in different industries here. Mr Horatio Brown also came & presented to me the 2 presidents who named each gentleman as he came in with whom I shook hands. I then led them round the rooms & explained the pictures & other things that interested them. The gentlemen of the press made copious notes & all were loud in admiration of all they saw. At the end I took them into the drawing room to see what pictures are there—the Savoldo, Ercole Grandi, Sebastiano del Piombo & invited them to partake of refreshments—tea, coffee or champagne. This brought the visit to a happy conclusion after Sr Molmenti had made me a happy & suitable little speech of thanks—again I shook hands with them all & they departed– Later Nela & I took a row in gondola.
