21 June 1912 — Chateau Le Muette, Paris
Friday. 21st [June 1912]. Quiet morning only interrupted by tiresome trying on of garments brought from a shop & to which I succumbed out of sheer weariness of spirit. There were visitors to tea & we did not go out until they had left. Sophy drove me into town to call on Mme de [illegible word] whose day it was. There we met the new American Ambassador to France Mr J. Herrick a pleasant nice looking big man, also Mme Waddington the widow of the Ambassador– On leaving the party we went to Mme Waddington’s & paid her a short visit & found her house all packed preparatory to moving into another flat. Enquired at Hotel Westminster & found the Bessboro’s were arriving at 7.30 so I left word I would return at 9 wh I did going in a taxi with Baker. I found with them Irène Congreve & Duncannon came in & explained to us what all the wedding ceremonies are to be—three days of fêtes. It seems a lot. I arranged to go tomorrow morning to the house to see the wedding presents wh he says have been valued at £10000 & we came off back to La Muette at 10.30.
