5 September 1912 — Inwood, Henstridge, Somerset
Thursday. 5th [September 1912]. Breakfast at 9.30. Sat & talked with Ines Du Cane till 12 when I went out with Theo round the gardens. There are plenty of glass houses but nothing very interesting in them. Ines is an agreeable woman well read & bright & we conversed in French. After luncheon Theo took me out in her motor car to pay a visit to the D. & Duchess of Somerset at Maiden Bradley wh is about 18 miles off. We called at Stourhead to leave cards on Sir Henry & Lady Hoare on the way. A handsome stone house in a fine park with ornamental water. The Somersets welcomed us warmly & we had tea with them the Duke pouring out the tea for us. We stayed chatting about an hour & then started home at 5.30. Did puzzles in evening.
