10 September 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 10th [September 1912]. Nela & I went off to the Hospital at 10.30. It was blowing rather hard & it was cold & sunless. We went by the small canal & came out under Banco’s hotel & it was blowing so hard we had to make for San Giorgio & then drop down gradually to the Redentore. Such high wind at this time of year is rare. Mr Charles Hallé came to see us & tells us he has taken a house near S. Maria Formosa & will settle here with his sister Nora. Then came Mr Price to give us what little parish news there is—nothing important. Lunched at 12.30 & at 1.30 started for the station & left by the 2.10 train for Belluno where we arrived at about 7 & found the Edens carriage waiting to convey us to their villa at Salce. It was raining & very cold—found the Edens shivering & saying that it has been so cold of late they thought we could not remain up here for long. I began to wish I had remained a few more days in London—but regrets are no use– We dined at 7.30 & the Edens went to bed before 9. Nela & I played patience in my bedroom till a later hour.
