1 October 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice
Tuesday. 1st October [1912]. I worked enamels in the morning. At 3 we all went out in gondola to antiquity shops. Went to tea with Mrs Curtis, to the Piazza & Du Canes & I walked home. I received in the evening—not many people. Mr & Mrs Herrick U.S. Ambassador in Paris came & Mme Stern & her daughter Marquise de Laubal– Mme Stern has lately come to settle here & built herself a small palazzo of exaggerated gothic Venetian (she is a Jewess). She is enormously rich & has fine houses in Paris & Cannes & seemed clever & to know all abt old pictures.
