2 October 1912 — Ca’ Capello, Venice | |
Wednesday. 2nd [October 1912]. I & Dacre ran round to Piccoli’s antiquity shop close behind this house to see if there was anything he wanted to buy & returned in triumph with an old lamp that Theo might like to buy; this she did– Then they all went off in gondola & I set to work in the studio till they returned to lunch. At 3 I took them out in gondola past SS Zanipolo & round to Madonna dell’Orto to call on Mrs Humphrey Johnston & luckily she was at home so that Theodora could see their beautiful home & garden—& there we met Mrs Curtis & others & partook of afternoon tea– Thence to the Piazza & the Du Canes & I walked home after shopping– Theo returned in gondola. Mr & Mrs Herrick (USA) dined with us & left early & we retired to bed as Theo & Du Canes had to prepare for an early start tomorrow. | |
